Description:

David Levering Lewis is Professor Emeritus, New York University and author, most recently, of The Improbable Wendell Willkie, presents. Dr. Lewis will present on Wendell Willkie, who was successful at outwitting the isolationist wing of his own party, and then took on Roosevelt during one of the nation's darkest periods. He lost, but, went on to defend civil liberties against government abuse, advocate sweeping race relations reform a generation before the civil rights era, and propose a “new conception of the world” that remains inspirational at time when our own national belief system is alarmingly immoral and rudderless. A reception follows the lecture at around 8:15 pm.
