IU CINEMA: Le Samouraļ

50th Anniversary Screening.

In a career-defining performance, Alain Delon plays a contract, semi-schizophrenic killer with samurai instincts. A razor-sharp cocktail of 1940s American gangster cinema and 1960s French pop culture—with a liberal dose of Japanese lone-warrior mythology—maverick director Jean-Pierre Melville's masterpiece Le Samouraï defines cool. Melville’s best-known film has influenced many filmmakers since its release. 35mm print courtesy of the Institut Français. Special thanks to the Cultural Services of the French Embassy. (35mm Presentation)
