Bicentennial Sponsored Conference: Society for Ethnomusicology Annual Meeting
The Society for Ethnomusicology is the largest association of ethnomusicologists in the world, and its annual meeting is the world's largest gathering of ethnomusicologists. The organization of the SEM 2019 Annual Meeting at IU Bloomington, sponsored in part by the IU Office of the Bicentennial, will highlight IU's legacy as an international center of ethnomusicology. Instruction in this field began at IU in the late 1940s with George Herzog and continued with such figures as George List, Walter Kaufmann, and Alan Merriam. Since then, ethnomusicology has flourished within IU's Folklore Institute/Department, which became the Department of Folklore and Ethnomusicology in 2000.
This event is sponsored in part by a grant from the IU Office of the Bicentennial.
