Lunch & Lecture: Amin Sophiamehr "Possibility of a Universal Islamic Regime: Alfarabi's Reflection

Join the Center for the Study of the Middle East for a presentation by Amin Sophiamehr, PhD student in the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Literatures. This research centers on the discussion of utopia in Alfarabi's writings. Recent interpretations suggest that Alfarabi seeks to build a blueprint for the ideal political regime. But Amin Sophiamehr presents an alternative: Alfarabi advances arguments against the possibility of a universal virtuous or Islamic regime. In this talk, he discusses the implications of this alternative interpretation. CSME will provide Mother Bear's Pizza and cookies from Baked for lunch.
