The School of Nursing is sponsoring this year’s annual IU Northwest Health Fair on Tuesday, Nov. 14 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Savannah Center lobby. (Note—Labs will be drawn in Savannah 205-206 from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m.)
The health fair is open to all students, faculty, staff, and the community. Door prizes will be given away throughout the day.
Here are some of the services that will be provided:
1. Wellness Panel laboratory testing including lipid panel (full cholesterol panel); expanded comprehensive metabolic panel (includes iron, phosphorus, uric acid, GGT liver test, electrolytes, fasting blood sugar, and other tests); and complete blood count (CBC).
Wellness panel tests for all currently enrolled IU Northwest students are FREE with current student ID (thanks to the support of the Office of Student Activities), $20 for current faculty and staff (thanks to the support of the Wellness Team), and $30 for all others.
All participants must not eat anything for 10-12 hours prior to having the wellness panel drawn. (ONLY black coffee and water may be consumed.) Blood draws will be performed in Savannah Center 205-206 from 7:30-10:30 a.m. No appointment is necessary.
Pay for the laboratory testing the day of the health fair when registering for the labs in Savannah Center 205-206. Only cash or checks will be accepted. No credit cards.
Additional individual lab tests that will be offered include a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test for $20, hemoglobin A1C for $20, blood type for $10, thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) for $20, high sensitivity C-reactive protein (CRP) for $20, lipoprotein A for $25, vitamin B12 test for $30, vitamin B12 shot for $15, vitamin D test for $25, and hepatitis C antibody for $35. (Note—The CDC recommends everyone born from 1945-1965 should be tested for hepatitis C. Therefore, we added this test this year.) Additional package option lab tests that will be offered are an anemia profile for $20, arthritis profile for $60, cardiac profile for $40, and a thyroid profile for $38.
2. Blood pressure screenings.
3. Free bone density screenings.
4. Free HIV testing.
There will be many campus groups participating in this event. Please come and join us and see what we have to offer. In conjunction with the health fair, the sophomore nursing students will present information on various health and wellness topics at a poster presentation session in Moraine Student Center 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
