Topic: IP Financing – The Nigerian Film Industry as a Case Study
Speaker: Mosun Oke
The purpose of this presentation is to highlight the challenge of access to financing by start-ups using IP as collateral and the new legislation (The Secured Transaction in Movable Assets Act, 2017) passed by the National Assembly to address this challenge. The Nigerian Film Industry will be discussed as a case study. The following topics will be discussed: (1) the legal and regulatory framework of the Nigerian film industry; (2) copyright enforcement mechanisms (3) IP financing; and (4) taxation.
About Mosun Oke
Mosun Oke is a practicing attorney in Nigeria with over 13 years of experience in corporate/commercial law. She completed her undergraduate study and was called to the Nigerian Bar. She received an LL.M. in International Commercial Law from the University of Leicester, United Kingdom. After working for a while as a corporate/commercial lawyer in her home country, she recognized the challenge start-ups encounter in accessing finance using their intellectual property as collateral. This spurred an interest in her and she decided to broaden her knowledge in the field of IP financing. She plans to pursue an S.J.D. at IU McKinney after completing her LL.M. studies.

Speaker: Oluwatobiloba Kappo
The topic will focus on the present state of inventions and technological advancements in Nigeria, factors affecting their development, and their future.
About Oluwatobiloba Kappo
Oluwatobiloba Kappo obtained her LL.B. from Babcock University Nigeria and was called to the Nigerian bar in 2014. She proceeded to work in a law firm where she primarily focused on corporate and commercial law and intellectual property law. She is currently pursuing her LL.M. in Intellectual Property Law. She intends to contribute to the development of international intellectual property law in Nigeria after obtaining her LLM.

Speaker: Oluwadamilola Ayoola
About Oluwadamilola Ayoola
Oluwadamilola Ayoola got her law degree from Babcock University, Nigeria in 2013 . She also holds a diploma in criminology and security studies. She was called to the Nigerian Bar as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. She started her legal practice at the Legal Aid council of Nigeria. She later joined the law firm Chief P.C. Ajayi-Obe (SAN) & Co. where she actively practiced criminal law and family law. She is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association and also an associate member of the Chattered Institute of Arbitrators UK (Nigeria Branch). She is a member of the Nigerian Society of International Law. She is currently pursuing her Master of Laws in the Corporate and Commercial Law track.
