Open Auditions Henrik Ibsen's "A Doll House"

Who: ANYONE! Auditions for Theatre Northwest productions are open to IU Northwest students, regardless of academic major. In addition, auditions are open to Ivy Tech students and members of the community. No previous theatre experience is required.

Wednesday, January 23, 2019: 6-9pm - Callbacks (actors unable to attend on January 22 are welcome)

Parking: Free Parking available at Broadway and 35th beginning at 5:30 pm.

 

How to Prepare: Wear comfortable clothes (soft clothing, athletic shoes) and be prepared to move and read from the script. You will be asked to fill out a contact form and declare your rehearsal availability, so bring your calendar!

Synopsis
Nora Helmer and her husband Torvald joyfully find themselves part of the “new 1960s middle class” when Torvald lands a job as bank manager. But Nora has a secret that she has hidden well, a hefty loan she has taken out without her husband's permission. When Krogstad threatens to expose her secret, Nora must decide whether to finally be honest with her husband. Will his response change their marriage forever? Are they really the perfect couple that they seem to be?

 

Characters (six roles, 3 female, 3 male):

Nora Helmer: This role will be played by senior theatre student Sydney Hale as part of her degree capstone.

 

Torvald Helmer: A bank manager, recently promoted. Nora’s husband. Close friends with Dr. Rank and childhood friends with Krogstad. Prior to the start of the play, he an illness required that he take a year-long trip to Italy. Because of his new position, he is very focused on the public reputation of his family.

 

Dr. Rank: An aged medical doctor.  A longtime friend of the Helmers, whom he visits every day. Secretly harbors some unrequited feelings towards Nora. Has recently discovered that he is terminally ill.

 

Kristine Linde: Nora’s long lost friend. Krogstad’s former flame. A widow who has spent her life caring for other members of her family.  Finally free from this hardship, she returns to seek out a different life.

 

Krogstad: A childhood friend of Torvald and former flame of Kristine. Has a poor reputation as an “off-the-books” money lender. Trying to turn his life around and gain employment in a bank.


Anne-Marie: A live-in nanny/maid in the Helmer household. Cared for Nora as a little girl as well. Though her employment has caused her to lose time with her own children, she not resentful because she sees Nora as her family.

 

CREW POSITIONS: There are always opportunities to be involved backstage at Theatre Northwest! We are looking for those with interest and/or experience with stage management, costumes, properties, lighting, set construction and painting. REHEARSALS: Rehearsals will be held Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 6-9 pm, between January 28st and April 3rd. Actors are only called to rehearsals in which their role will participate in rehearsal. Additional weekend rehearsal times will be added as opening approaches. Those auditioning must be available for a majority of the rehearsals and must declare rehearsal conflicts before being cast.

 

PERFORMANCES: Performance Dates: April 4, 5, 6, 11, 12, 13 at 7:30 pm and a matinee performance on April 7 at 2:30 pm.

 

CLASS CREDIT: You can receive academic credit for your involvement with this show by registering for 1 credit of T168 THEATRE PRACTICUM.
