Hussein Banai, "Defiant State: The Islamic Republic of Iran at 40"
Next Monday, join Students for Peace in the Middle East for the lecture "Defiant State: The Islamic Republic of Iran at 40" by International Studies professor Hussein Banai to reflect on the Iranian Revolution and the establishment of the Islamic Republic of Iran at its 40th anniversary.
Professor Banai’s research is focused on Iran’s political development as well as on US-Iran relations. He is working on a book manuscript on the tortuous path of liberal thought-practices in modern Iran, provisionally titled “Hidden Liberalism in Modern Iran.” He has co-convened a critical oral history project (along with colleagues at Brown University, MIT, the George Washington University, and the University of Waterloo) on US-Iran relations since 2007. The project brings together former Iranian and American officials, scholars, journalists, and other interested parties to explore missed opportunities and breakthroughs in US-Iran relations since the Iranian Revolution in 1979.
Tea will be served.
