IU Europe Gateway

Workshop: Halal Economies in non-Muslim Countries

On May 3 & 4, experts from nine different countries convene at the IU Europe Gateway for an international workshop on Halal economies.

The workshop, which was organized by Michael C. Brose from the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies, invites contributions that illustrate and interrogate the interactions of commercial and religious ethics, philosophy and choice that occur in the regulation and certification, production, marketing, service delivery and consumption of halal goods in non-Muslim Majority states and societies.

Case studies presented in the workshop will also decipher local understanding and definitions of halal and the expectations of consumers of halal products in those states.

Michael C. Brose is the Director of the Pan Asia Institute and Director of the East Asian Studies Center at IU Bloomington.
