Research Roundtable: Activism and German Hip Hop

Amy Aiyebusi is currently doing her PhD (Ethnomusicology track) with the Department of Folklore and Ethnomusicology at IU’s College of Arts & Sciences.

Her research project documents both existing and ideological framework in relation to social activism practices in Germany represented through the lens of German hip hop. Through the utilization of ethnographic methodology, including but not limited to personal interviews with and the observation of both women hip hop artists and the German political hip hop party Die Urbane, her research seeks to answer the question: What is the effect of women hip hop artists’ social activism on the current socio-political state of contemporary Germany?

This roundtable on "Activism and German Hip Hop: Rapping, Scratching and Tagging Their Way into Germany’s Social Consciousness" aims at bringing together people from these different groups mentioned above to discuss questions related to Amy Aiyebusi's research project.
